A million dollar experiment: Am I a dream-catcher, too?
A man, I don’t know the name or his age but it is said that he is a kid or a college student, had a funny idea and built a website, milliondollarhomepage.com.
Long story short, he sold million pixels in a grid on the web page. He charged a dollar per pixel; so 10 x 10 pixel space cost 100 dollars. That means, to place an image of a typical icon size, you have to pay 2,500 dollars! Amazingly, his 1 million pixel grid was all sold out quickly.
Recently, I briefly searched on Google and found that there were lots of dream catchers with exactly the same concept. Interestingly, however, unlike the fortunate young man, most of their pixel grid were blank; some had merely few banners placed. At that moment, I became curious about why these basically-the-same-websites looked pathetic, without getting any attention from marketers. So I decided to build a same website with a domain name, ExpensivePixel.com that might cause some curiosities in my thought (You might not think that way at all; but it’s your thoughts and I respect that.
).
Every seller tends to claim that their products and services are high in quality but low in price. My domain name delivers an opposite message. If my experiment is successful, I’ll be a million dollar richer and be able to conclude that a domain name is one of the primary factors that could make you rich. Two days have passed since ExpensivePixel.com was up and no one has bought their ad space so far.
I will see what’s going to happen…
